How Events Work (Eventbrite Sync + Manual Entries)
Events on this site come from two places: automatically from Eventbrite, and manually added
Events on this site come from two places: automatically from Eventbrite, and manually added directly in WordPress. Understanding which is which matters before you start editing one.
Eventbrite-synced events
A scheduled task (a “CRON job”) runs automatically and pulls events across from Eventbrite into The Events Calendar on this site, including their Venue and Organiser details.
Manually added events
Events can also be created directly in WordPress using The Events Calendar, without ever existing on Eventbrite. These behave like a normal WordPress events with no connection to the sync.
Why this matters
Events pulled in from Eventbrite can be overwritten the next time the sync runs, so editing them directly in WordPress isn’t the safest approach – see the separate guide on editing synced events for the recommended way to make changes.
Tip: If you’re not sure whether an event was synced from Eventbrite or added manually, check whether it has an Eventbrite link url showing in its details – synced events will normally show this.
